Why Wedding Videography is Worth the Investment (Even If You’re Not ‘Video People’)

Videography
Tips
Advice
In the world of weddings, photography tends to be a non-negotiable. But when it comes to videography, it’s often treated as an optional extra, especially by couples who say things like, “We’re not really video people.”
As a full-time wedding videographer who has filmed lot's of love stories across NI and ROI, I completely understand the hesitation. Maybe you’re camera shy, maybe you’ve watched a few overly staged or dramatic videos that didn’t feel like “you,” or maybe you just don’t know where video fits into your day. And that's ok!
But let me tell you this: wedding videography isn’t about being “video people.” It’s about being people who want to remember, feel, and relive one of the most emotional, fun and joy-soaked days of your life.
Here’s why I believe, wholeheartedly, that investing in wedding videography is one of the best decisions you can make, even if you don’t think it’s for you.
Your Wedding Day Will Fly By
This might be the most common thing couples tell me after their day: “It went so fast.” You spend months, sometimes years, planning every detail. You plan the flowers, the outfits, the vows, the food, and then it’s over in what feels like a blink.
A wedding film gives you the chance to slow it all down. To notice the things you missed. To hear the laughter, see the tears, and soak in the magic from a different angle. It doesn’t replace photography, it enhances it. It brings a whole new layer of emotion and movement to your memories.
You Get to Hear the Words That Matter Most
One of the most beautiful elements of a wedding video is sound. Audio captures your partner’s vows, your dad’s speech, your niece’s giggle, the applause during your first kiss. These are the moments you hear just once in real-time, and they fade so fast.
A video captures not just how your day looked, but how it sounded. That’s something a photo simply can’t give you.
It Tells a Full, Honest Story
Not everyone wants a big, Hollywood-style feature film, and that’s ok. At Cruising Creative, my approach is all about documenting your day in a candid, retro and nostalgic way. I capture the in-between moments, the sideways glances, the tears that surprise you, and course, the belly laughs during speeches.
Your wedding video becomes a time capsule of real feelings. It’s not scripted. It’s not forced. It’s just you and your people, exactly as it all unfolded.
You’ll Treasure It More Over Time
When you first receive your video, you’ll likely watch it a few times and cry a few happy tears. But the real magic happens later. When anniversaries, special events or days like Valentine's Day roll around. When loved ones who were there aren’t anymore. When you have kids (or dogs!) and want to show them where your story began.
Time adds value to a wedding video. It becomes more than just a keepsake, it becomes a legacy.
It’s For the People Who Couldn’t Be There
Whether it’s an elderly grandparent, a friend living overseas, or a sibling who couldn’t travel, your video allows them to witness your day in the most heartfelt way.
And beyond that, it becomes a way for future people in your life to know this part of your story. Imagine your children or nieces and nephews seeing you walk down the aisle, hearing your voice as you read your vows, and feeling the energy of the people who raised and celebrated you.
You Don’t Need to Be “Comfortable on Camera”
So many of my couples worry that they’ll look awkward or won’t know what to do in front of a lens. But that’s not your job to worry about that, it’s mine.
My job is to blend into the background, to make you feel at ease, to let the day unfold naturally and capture it without pressure or over-posing. Most of the time, my couples forget I’m even filming. And that’s when the magic happens.
So, Is It Really Worth the Investment?
Yes. A thousand times yes.
Wedding videography is one of the few things you keep from your day, not wear once, not eat, not throw away. It’s a lasting, living record of your emotions, your people, your promises.
Here is a testimonial from one of my couples that really emphasises this:
"Getting a videographer was one of the best decisions I made for our wedding. Sophie is such a pleasure to work with. She is so friendly and easy going. Communication was quick and easy. We got to have a sneak peak engagement video which we got back so quickly and is amazing.
On the wedding day she worked seamlessly with our photographer putting us both a ease throughout the day. We received our sneak peak wedding video a few days after and the full video a few weeks later, incredible service. Watching the video is so special I really feel like I'm reliving the day. I cried so many tears of joy. I am so grateful for the special memories Sophie has created for me. She really captured us and the true essence of our day."
Even if you never thought of yourself as a “video person,” I promise you’ll become one the moment you hit play on your film and feel everything all over again.
About Me
Hi! I’m Sophie from Cruising Creative. I'm a full-time wedding videographer based in Fermanagh. I capture weddings all across Northern Ireland and beyond, documenting love stories in a candid, emotional, and nostalgic way. I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of imperfection, the realness of connection, and the joy of small moments. That is why I love to capture those imperfections by combining retro-style camcorder (Hi8) video with digital video, creating something truly unique to you.
When I’m not filming weddings, you’ll find me living life on a narrowboat on Lough Erne with my husband, embracing slow and off-grid living.
Let’s Tell Your Story
If you’re planning a wedding and wondering if video is right for you, let’s chat. No pressure, just honest advice and a chance to see if we’re a good fit. I’d love to hear about your plans, your people, and what moments matter most to you.
Because every love story deserves to be told, not just remembered.
